While working on this piece en plein air in Italy, I focused on the interplay of light and the 'warm-vs-cool' temperature shifts. I was fascinated by the sunbeams dancing across the petals and branches, creating a unique, decorative natural effect. The dark accents provide a dramatic contrast that makes the play of light and shadow even more apparent.

My goal wasn't to create a strictly realistic botanical study of a magnolia bush. Instead, I wanted to capture the feeling of air, weightlessness, and the very essence of spring. This is why I left plenty of light, open space in the background—to convey that sense of the fresh, open air in which this work was born.
